After the breakout success of M3GAN, a film about an uncanny android doll who becomes murderously protective of its child friend, Blumhouse and James Wan’s production studio, Atomic Monster, have been eager and ready to give us more AI-related horror projects.
First up is the direct sequel M3GAN 2.0, which will star Ahsoka actor Ivanna Sakhno and, presumably, the killer AI doll. That film is set to come out in January 2025. And the following year, we’ll get another M3GAN-related installment in the form of Soulm8te, which is described as an erotic thriller.
According to Variety, the movie centers on a man who “acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.”
The movie, which is also described as being inspired by “’90s domestic thrillers but with a modern, technological twist,” has Kate Dolan (Kin, The Tourist, You Are Not My Mother) on board to direct. She also rewrote a draft from Rafael Jordan on a story from James Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Jordan.
“Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness,” Dolan said in a statement via Variety. “Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths.”
No news on casting yet, but Soulm8te is set to titillate us in theaters starting on January 2, 2026.
